TACKLING THE GARAGE LIKE A GLADIATOR

Last spring, my family and I moved into a new house and it was a pleasure to get a spacious garage, especially as a blank canvas. There was nothing to rip out or fix. Being able to start from scratch, I could modify the parking space as I wished or just leave it as is, with a few storage containers full of family keepsakes. But before I knew it, the garage quickly became an unattractive storage bin where an SUV would park, on occasion. Items like seasonal tools, sports equipment, luggage, patio furniture, and holiday decorations soon populated the atmosphere of my secondary Man-cave. A year later, the garage has become overwhelming (and unattractive). I can't even look at the rear view camera screen anymore, when I reverse into it.

In an unexpected coincidence, while at this year’s Canadian International Auto Show at the Toronto Metro Convention Center this past weekend, the Legendary Motocar section hosted a series of Car Maintenance and Improvement booths with helpful ideas, among some amazing classic cars. Within those showcases I uncovered a warrior way to tackle my out-of-control garage— the customization solutions of Gladiator Garageworks. Inspired by the sight of what could be, I’ve decided that now[!] is the time to stop drudging through stuff and get the garage organized so that I can grab whatever gear or tools I need, with more ease, and spend more time pursuing my passions (or Saturday afternoon home maintenance chores).

Learning of the Gladiator products, which predominantly include movable shelving, garage cabinets, and wall mounting solutions, I could tactically envision some answers to my garage woes. Gladiator's not just about organization and storage but also ensuring that there's a stylish aesthetic to their durable items, a look a customer can live with long term, and can match the configurations of just about any garage.

Now how much is this gonna cost? It's all up to me. I can easily start small and grow over time, fitting the household's needs, budget and of course, the vehicle. There no pressure to splurge on a complete “Garage Upgrade”, when I can pick and choose components as I deem necessary and apply them using Gladiator’s GearTrack system, where and when possible. Plus, I can do all the installations on my own, if I choose. But it doesn’t stop there.

There are also options that can be applied to other areas of the home such as the entryway, laundry room and home office. So, as a start, I can procure a few things for the garage and then I can mix and match pieces, moving around fixtures and storage compartments to suit the different spaces, without being concerned about specs, proper fittings, or even breaking a sweat.

What’s left? Time to take some measurements and plan my attack. This Spring, my personal decluttering revolution, will begin. To quote hero Maximus Decimus Meridius from the 2000 Ridley Scott film, “My name is Gladiator.”
