BILATERAL HOUSE

Using an 116-year-old Period Revival home in Toronto as the base, the Bilateral House is part restoration and part new construction. To meet city requirements, the front half of the exterior facade retains its original charm by restoring the existing brick, replacing wood trim, and applying new stucco, while a modern extension to the rear satisfies the needs of the homeowners. The addition of black metal to both ends unites the old with the new. Although leaving subtle reminders of its former heritage, the interior truly reflects the owner's love for all things contemporary with elements of raw concrete, paired with clean, white walls to create a gallery aesthetic to display their personal collection of art and vintage furniture.
