FORD REDESIGNED THE MUSTANG FOR 2018 (ALREADY)

Only two years into the sixth-generation Mustang’s life cycle, Ford has already commissioned a design refresh. And like the previous generation, design cues from the headlining, high-performance Shelby model have been passed down to the mainstream ‘Stang to boost the curb appeal.

At a private viewing during the North American International Auto Show, Melvin Betancourt, the Mustang design manger, posed the questions: “what’s successful on a feature car, and why can’t we bring that to a mainstream model? I dropped the nose and dropped the headlights too. I brought it to almost the same proportions as the GT 350.”

The biggest changes up front are the squashed headlights with a downturned trailing edge and the wider-looking front grille, along with an edgier front splitter and chiseled brake-cooling vents. Around back, the tri-bar taillights were also redesigned and have taken on more of a “C” shape in profile which makes the back end of the car look a bit more sunken in.
