IN THE US, YOU CAN NOW SURF WITHOUT THE OCEAN

Tomorrow, the first surfing facility of its kind in the US will open to the public in Austin, Texas. Much like the Kelly Slater Wave Company, NLand Surf Park produces mechanically generated waves that are perfect each time. The system utilizes Wavegarden technology: essentially a mechanical, wedge-like wing that is dragged through the water from one end of a pool to the other. By adjusting the speed at which the wedge is dragged, different shapes and sizes of waves can be produced on the same system.

NLand offers everything from rolling waves for beginners, to two-foot waves for intermediate level surfers, to head-height waves for the experts. The project has been long awaited, and will act as a guinea pig for future wave pools in other locations without access to the ocean. Who knows — in a few years, the best surfer in the world could be from Iowa.
