MERCEDES’ AMG GT GOES TOPLESS, AND THE RESULTS ARE BEAUTIFUL
Ahead of the Paris Motor Show debut, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the anticipated drop-top version of the already excellent and classically proportioned AMG GT. The rounded, sloping back of the coupe version now gives way to a retractable soft top that can open and close at speeds up to 30 mph. Mercedes will be making two versions (as far as we know): a “standard” AMG GT Roadster and a more hardcore AMG GT C.
The former uses a tweaked version of the coupe’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to provide 469 horsepower — a bump of 13 horsepower from the coupe, likely to make up for the negative effects removing the top has on performance — and is good for a 0-60 sprint in 3.9 seconds. Meanwhile the GT C gets a whopping 557 horsepower, dropping the 0-60 time down to 3.7 seconds. The GT C also gets a wider rear track to accommodate the rear-steering system carried over from the track-focused AMG GT R.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but if you love the looks of this new Merc, know that they’ll start hitting showrooms in fall of next year.
